Good red patterns are shaped like large groups stepping
stones. Nevertheless, in some contests often seen some koi champions who have a
pattern of red dots rather small. But do not reduce the overall beauty of the
koi fish.
Based on the pattern, then Kohaku can be divided into
several categories , among others:
- Ippon Hi : 1 step Kohaku pattern (straight)
- Nidan Kohaku : Kohaku with 2 -step pattern
- Sandan Kohaku : Kohaku with 3 -step pattern
- Yondan Kohaku : Kohaku with 4 -step pattern
- Godan Kohaku : Kohaku with 5 -step pattern
- Inazuma Kohaku : Kohaku with a pattern resembling lightning
- Maruten Kohaku : Kohaku with a pattern on a separate head (tancho)
- Kuchibeni Kohaku : Kohaku red pattern on her mouth lips (lipstick)
Several types of Kohaku that cannot be contested in the
category of varieties Kohaku namely:
- Gotensakura: Kohaku with cherry pattern, should fall into the category kawarigoi
- Kanoko: Kohaku with a lot of red color arising in their respective scales, including the category kawarigoi
- Kin gin rin Kohaku: Kohaku with a very shiny scales, in the category of kin gin rin.
